Denim round this Saturday - Jeans for Genes

19 Jul 2019 by David Rodwell

This Saturday the Saints play Sydney Harlequins at Hassell Park for the first ever denim charity round!

On top of the days’ usual purpose – enjoying quality rugby, the Saints players and supporters have a special opportunity to give back to the community that supports the club by raising awareness and money for a great cause! That cause is Jeans for Genes.

Join in celebrating a fantastic cause by wearing your best denim.

The game schedule for the day is as follows

12:55 pm: 3rd Grade
2 pm: 2nd Grade
3:15 pm: 1st Grade
4:50 pm: U16 Juniors Game vs Wakehurst
5:20 pm: Jersey Auction!

For those that can’t make it…. You can still donate for this great cause.

It is not widely known that Jeans for Genes is the charity of the Children’s Medical Research Institute (CMRI), a world class research facility that has been making incredible breakthroughs in science and medical research towards children’s genetic diseases for the past 60 years. Every single dollar donated to Jeans for Genes goes towards this research and this wouldn’t be possible without the support of the community.

To help the 1 in 20 children born with genetic diseases, the Northern Saints will be raising money by auctioning the custom denim print jerseys worn by first grade this weekend, with all the proceeds going to Jeans for Genes. The cost of the jerseys was sponsored by Ceerose to ensure every dollar raised can be donated. Thank you to Ceerose and the Doueihi family for making this possible.

What to wear
So what else can you do to support Jeans for Genes, you may ask. Well, this Saturday we would love all players and supporters who attend to wear as much denim as they own. Double denim is preferred!

We will also be collecting any old denim garments you may no longer want, so bring it along and pop it in the ‘Denim Collection’ basket set up next to the bar in the clubhouse. These can be used by the CMRI committees to raise more money for Jeans for Genes.

Jersey Auction
You can also bid on the jerseys, with the final bidding to take place after the conclusion of first grade in the clubhouse – more info on timing in the day program you can download at the bottom of this email. You can already make bids by sending our Facebook page a private message.

The current bids can be seen here: https://www.facebook.com/northernsaintsrugby/photos/a.165102796854179/2551903151507453/

There will also be a charity raffle ($5 per ticket) for a signed Waratah’s jersey, a Hampers Only Cocktail set and a meat tray.

Yours in rugby,
